From Bahir Dar on June 9, 2014, ENA reported announcement at the 12th Regional Executive Council session of Amhara Region by President Gedu Andargachew Wednesday that he is prepared to take single strike action (“የማያዳግም እርምጃ”) on those escalating the prices of goods and services in the region.

Trachoma

Twenty-one million people are affected by trachoma, an eye infection that can leads to blindness. It is a bacterial disease spread from one eye to another through close contact mostly between mothers and their children, as well as by flies.

The Amhara province in the Ethiopian highlands has the highest prevalence in the world.

The State Council of Amhara Region on 8 March requested all the relevant government offices to address the worsening food shortage across towns in the region and provide urgent solutions without any further delay, according to the Ethiopian News Agency (ENA). This request was made from Bahr Dar, where the council has been holding its session.
