The Addis Ababa City Police Commission condemned those who declined to accept the recent terrorist plot meant to happen during the football match between Ethiopia and Nigeria as a terror act.

Several political parties condemned the act, but some heads of opposition parties thought the incident as a drama by the government to gain political profit.

“There is no reason for the government to make a drama and trick its own people,” Addis Ababa Police Commission Commissioner, Yihdego Seyum told WIC.

“It is not expected from party leaders to consider such kind of incident as a drama because terrorism is a global problem which takes the lives of innocent civilians,” he added.

He said ensuring the sustainability of ongoing economic growth and maintaining durable peace in the country is the main goal of the government.

Commissioner Yihdego also called on opposition political parties, who mistakenly believe that the incident is a drama, to join hands with the government and the public in the fight against terrorism.

He said the Commission is making relentless efforts to thwart any terrorist attack as the city is the seat for many embassies and international organizations.

Two Somali nationals were killed in a bomb blast at their home in Addis Ababa early this month.
Different materials important for suicide attack, like explosive vests, explosive belt, explosive battery and jersey of the Ethiopian national football team were found at the scene.
