Attack on public transport in Benishangul-Gumuz claims 9 lives injuring 7, says Ethiopia

Addis Ababa April 15/2014 (ENA): Early morning today, unidentified armed men opened fire on a track carrying 28 people and killing nine in board at Benishangul-Gumuz region, according to Government Communication Affairs Office.

The Office further stated, seven people, all local residents have also sustained from light to severe injuries the result of the criminal offence.

The Office, announced that the government will spare no effort from bringing to justice all those responsible for the attack.

Local police and security are already deployed to apprehend the perpetrators.

The incident occurred as the small district called ‘Teiba’ in Sherkole Zone situated 100km away from the region’s capital, Assosa.

According to the Office, the police has commenced investigation gathering evidences leading up to the identity of the culprits, their associates if any, as well as the motives behind the attack.

The Communication Office which gave no further details on the incident, however, indicated the findings of the investigation will be disclosed to the public in due course of time.
