When I first heard about Genzebe’s sterling victory in Beijing, I was ecstatic. I retwetted the followin:
@iaaforg @mfaethiopia @BBCSport @athleticsafrica @BBCAfrica Am in no competition with anyone, but I should be allowed to say I love Genzebe!
Reuters’ Nick Mulvenney writes of Genzebe’s valor:
“The 24-year-old world record holder tired of a tactical race and hit the front with two laps to go, outpacing the field over the final 800 meters to win in four minutes 8.09 seconds.”
Kenya’s former world junior champion Faith Kipyegon, who is the Commonwealth Games champion said: “Genzebe is just too fast in the finish, writes David I wanted to keep up with her but she is the real winner.
Our Genzebe said in response: “I worked very hard for the last three years,” she said. “It’s great to have such a strong performance. My sister won the gold medal in this stadium at the Olympic Games so I wanted to share this family experience.”
