Ethiopia must let Somalia determine its own fate

Somalia will not be able to assert itself and prosper until Ethiopia stops meddling in its affairs. Western nations also need to reevaluate their support of the Ethiopian regime if they ever want to see peace in the Horn of Africa.

Ethiopia has long been a thorn in the side of Somalia, a troublesome neighbour, and an obstacle to regional peace.

AU asks Ethiopia, Kenya & Uganda to honor pledged air assets to AMISOM

The African Union (AU) at its 608th meeting asked Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda to honour their pledged air assets and deployment of additional force enablers to the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

Through a statement by the Peace and Security Council, seen by the Star on Wednesday, the AU said prolonged negotiations between the UN and the Troop and Police Contributing Countries (T/PCCs) should be finalised to facilitate the deployment of these air assets.

Ethiopia signals intention to withdraw forces from Somalia by end April

Ethiopia, which has deployed hundreds of troops inside Somalia to rout Islamist insurgents, is set to withdraw from the war-ravaged country by the end of April with Djibouti, Uganda and Burundi poised to step in, the African Union said on Friday.
