Washington wants a stable partner in the Horn of Africa. But cozying up to the repressive regime in Addis Ababa isn’t the way to go about finding one.

Later this month, President Barack Obama will become the first sitting U.S. president to ever visit Ethiopia, Africa’s second-most populous country, and a nation viewed by many as a bastion of stability in a region otherwise beset with civil strife. The trip — which will also include a stopover in Kenya — is being billed as part of the Obama administration’s regional efforts “to accelerate economic growth, strengthen democratic institutions, and improve security.”

Ethiopian election 2015: UNDP reacts to charges it is promoting TPLF regime, albeit mere denial

– I –

The Ethiopia Observatory (TEO) is very grateful for the response received and clarifications provided by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Ethiopia Office to the charges and criticisms of how Resident Representative Eugene Owusu handled himself on Monday, 14 May 2015 regarding his presumed role of being electoral patriarch in Ethiopia, especially in the lead to the finale of Sunday’s voting hours.

Editor’s Note:

The TPLF is not only illegally seizing and sending Ethiopian youth to unknown concentration camps fearing possible disturbances in Addis Abeba. But also it is committing a grave crime of disenfranchising individual voting age citizens denying them of the right to participate in the election this month.
