A protest rally organized by the opposition Unity for Democracy and Justice (UDJ) rally was held in Addis Abeba today. The purpose of the rally was to demand an end to repression, return Ethiopia to the path of democracy and ensure the freedom of citizens. The protestors also demanded the release of all political prisoners, comprising of journalists and members of the different opposition party groups and supporters.

The protesters were heard chanting “We are not terrorists”; “Freedom”, “Justice”, and, among others, an end to the 2009 repressive anti-terrorism law.

Commentators and organizers are heard putting the number of protestors as high as 100,000, although police in different part of the city had blocked and cut off huge chunks of people flowing in to link up with the protest leaders and the lead marchers that had planned to march on Mesquel Square, but were refused passage.

Here is video evidence, courtesy of Ethiovids, showing vigor of the protests.
