On 28 February, the leaders of Ethiopia, Djibouti, Kenya, Somalia, Uganda adopted a declaration, which among others, condemned “the recent attacks perpetuated by Al Shaabab in Mogadishu, Leggo, Janaale, and El Adde and, the continued asymmetrical warfare by this terrorist group against the Somalia government. The declaration acknowledges “the growing threats posed by Al Shabaab.”

    We fully agree that resolution of the South Sudan conflict has been long overdue. The sufferings and agony of the poor people of that unfortunate country has been enormous. It appears that all those that have either capacity to do something or the responsibility to help end the conflict seem to have inadequate focus in addressing the problem.

They should call for the formation of a transitional government in South Sudan, with all the stakeholders participating. The world has seen enough that at the root of the South Sudanese crisis lies a monster called greed for power – none other than President Salva Kiir’s.
