In the midst of a Forex currency crisis, the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) has devalued Birr by 15pc and raised the interest rate by two percentage points to seven percent. The devaluation pegs the Ethiopian Birr at 26.91 to the dollar, up from 23.40 Br on the official market. It will be effective from tomorrow, October 11, 2017.

የ2007 የዘጠኝ ወር አፈጻጸም እንደሚያሳየውም የወርቅ ወጪ ንግድ ገቢ በ19 በመቶ ወርዷል፡፡ ዕድገት እየታየበት የነበረው የቅባት እህሎች የወጪ ንግድ ገቢ ሳይቀር ከቀደመው ዓመት ዘጠኝ ወር አኳያ በ20 በመቶ ቀንሷል፡፡ የአበባ ምርትም በዕድገትና ትራንስፎርሜሽን ዕቅዱ ከተቀመጠው ማሳካት የቻለው 47 በመቶ ብቻ ነው፡፡
የኢትዮጵያ የወጪ ንግድ በሚፈለገው ደረጃ ለመራመድ ያልቻለ የኢኮኖሚ ዘርፍ ሆኗል፡፡ የተከታታይ ዓመታት አህዛዊ መረጃዎች በግልጽ እንደሚያሳዩትም የአገሪቱ የወጪ ንግድ ዘርፍ ከአዙሪት ያለመውጣቱን ነው፡፡

With Ethiopia’s exports sector persistently performing poorly, the remedies also seem to increasingly being unattainable because of a combination of factors. More particularly the problems lie with lack of sincerity on the part of policy-makers in addressing the policy and structural problems and TPLF’s historical disregard of Ethiopia’s interests and mistakes in rendering the country landlocked.
