    While I am tempted to dismiss it as a wasteful exercise, still this reform the ministry of mines has started is better than nothing. Gold follows coffee in slipping nation’s revenue by 30%: Policy failures? Impotence? Corruption?

    It is not clear whether Ethiopia has learned from its past mistakes and chose this time around to restrain itself from forcing merchants to export their gold, as it did for coffee exporters in 2009. However, this Addis Fortune story shows that Al Amoudi is sitting on 306.4kg of gold, waiting for international prices to improve. It is a perfectly normal business practice, even when it hurts our nation, which is with just few weeks of its national reserve.
