The purported prime minster of Ethiopia, Hailemariam Desalegn, is a sanitary engineer with a master’s degree from Tampere University of Technology (TUT) in Finland. The sanitary engineering profession is concerned with the removal and disposal of human waste and finding ways of supplying safe potable water.

The Tampere University of Technology (TUT) deciding to confer upon its alumnus Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn an honorary doctorate degree is a developing story, which has troubled the Ethiopian Community in Finland. Accordingly, the Community has been following up and is in consultations with the university officials through the Committee responsible for the Conferment of Doctoral Degrees.

The Tampere University of Technology (TUT) in Finland has decided to award an honorary doctorate degree to Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn in May 2017, according to information on TUT webpage.

The university extended its invitation to possible candidates from both Finland and foreign countries, with emphasis on the degree to be conferred in “recognition of excellence in fields represented at the University and other exceptional scientific, artistic or social merits.”
